A Guest Deck - Big Blue Steel by Colin

(Editor's note: Colin is  another player at the TOGIT, and I think he has some interesting things to say about trying to build out of the tier one box.  Hope you like it.)

Big Blue Steel by Colin (the deck needed a name, so I named it - Mike)

So I've been building this deck for about a month now. It was a very solid list pre-Beseiged; the release of Beseiged yielded Treasure Mages to round out the deck very nicely. It's a UW Midrange Artifact deck. Here's the list:
Lands (22) - 4 Seachrome Coast, 4 Glacial Fortress, 7 Islands, 7 Plains
Creatures (22) - 3 Myr Battlesphere, 3 Wurmcoil Engine, 4 Steel Overseer, 4 Palladium Myr, 3 Myrsmith, 3 Treasure Mage, 2 Indomitable Archangel
Other (16) - 3 Everflowing Chalice, 2 Contagion Engine, 2 Eldrazi Monument, 2 Mimic Vat, 3 Tempered Steel, 2 Mana Leake, 2 Stoic Rebuttal
Current Sideboard - 3 War Priest of Thune, 4 Journey to Nowhere, 2 Day of Judgment

The deck puts significant amounts of Phase 1 pressure by throwing out low cost creatures who use synergy to become threats very quickly. Any combination of Overseer, Myrsmith, or Palladium Myr works, and Archangel is a beautiful 2-of to help transition to Phase 2.

Phase 2 is when the deck needs to kill. If a Palladium Myr survives Phase 1 or I land I good Chalice, I could throw out a Wurmcoil Engine or Myr Battlesphere by turn 4 or 5. Also in Phase 2, Tempered Steel makes my cheap creatures legitimate threats, as well as giving sweepers even more reasons not to sweep Wurmcoil Engines, and it changes the Battlesphere dynamic by allowing the tokens to hit hard too.

Phase 3 is basically a top-deck competition. Control decks will have stronger finishers and better ways of getting rid of mine at this point in time.
